Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, is indeed beautiful. You get unique views and nature, it is world wide known and it attracts the largest number of tourists in vacation. However, that is no longer enough. I have been to Rio only once, and it was many years ago (16 years ago, maybe?), and while Rio wasnt so dangerous back then, it got only worst, and it was the one place I didnt feel safe waljing around.
Yes, you will cross huge awesome tunnels, but if you fear you will get robbed while on trafic, something is wrong. Foi will hop on an eletric tram, but if you feel those people running and jumping on it are robbers, something is wrong. You will go to your hotel top floor and stare at the ocean and you will get chills, but you will look to the other side, and hey, there is Cryst the Redeemer, how cool is that? But when there are shot noises or shot sparks coming from around, something is wrong.
I am from Brazil and before I went there people told me I needed to wear very simple clothing because it would not call attention.
To be in my top list city needs to be beautiful, safe, and easy to navigate. Rio doesnt make it because, while it has great attractions and an unique beauty, you dont feel safe in there. This is also why Rome didnt make it to the list.
At least during winter, Venice main attractions close at 5pm, but it doesnt mean the city stops. As I said before, Venice is a very safe city for travellers and I cant shake the feeling attractions close early so you can hit a bath and prepare for the night.
At night restaurants come to life and while dinner can be expansive in this pretty place, it doesnt stop them from getting full. I never tend to foccus on food during my trips, so I went to stroll Venice at night.
Many people seemed to have the very same idea, because apparently, while Venice is charming at day, it gets even more beautiful at night.

As day light starts to go down, hit Piazza San Marco for pretty views from both sides: buildings in one and the stopped gondolas and sun coming down on the other.

Public lights are turned on and restaurants have light of their own, something you dont see during day. I dont know about you, but during night there are less doves there and for me that is a plus. I will never understand why people take pictures with them all over their bodies, and damn, I love pictures with animals, but not doves. They are just dirty.
From there walk to Rialto bridge. Apparently everyone will have the same idea, but I think it is because there are many dine options around the Grand Canal and there is an expansive mall that stays open a little longer. But who can deny the lights claim some attention?

And in case you get lost, fear not, you will get some awesome empty pictures.
Pack light, dont forget a camera that takes night pictures, and head to Venice.
My slogan for Venice: Getting Lost will help you find yourself
Florence – Italy
Beautiful small town. All main attractions are a step away from the main train station, which is something I really like in towns, and two full days are enough to visit every main attractions.
How not to fall on love with David by Michelangelo? Not to stroll and dream of art in Galleria degli uffizi? Buy gold pieces on Ponte Vecchia?
Florence has something for everyone, and it is also a train ride from Naples and Pompei.
It is clean, well conserved, safe and vibrant. Therefor it is on my favorite list.
(Every now and then I will throw quick posts about my ‘Most Beautiful Cities’ list’. Currently, under no special order, the cities on the list are:

Canals, gondolas, old architecture, and a peaceful, beautiful place. It is easy to get lost, but it is also a pleasure to do so. After all, getting lost will help you find yourself, right?
I have a few cities on my most beautiful cities list, every now and then I will throw a quick post about them. Venice is one of them.
